mill in Gorodkivka

In Zhytomyr region there are a large number of old water and steam mills, which were built during the industrial boom period in these lands.

These mills were indispensable for the production of many things, until progress displaced them as well.

The mill in Gorodkivka

One of these steam mills stands at the entrance to the village of Gorodkovka, Zhytomyr region, on the Guiva River.

The empty building, of which only walls are left (no roof) is an architectural monument of local importance. This water mill was built in 1908 – so it is written on one of the walls. It is not known till what time it worked. The dam is also well preserved and you can have a rest near the mill – there is a wonderful green glade.

I also saw a firewood storage area and I get the impression that someone lives here or at least keeps an eye on the construction.

There is a cobblestone road that starts behind the village of Krylovka. It continues along Gorodkivka and ends not far from the village. This is one of the sights of Zhytomyr region, which not everyone knows about.

How to get to the mill in Gorodkovka

You can get to Gorodkivka either via the Berdychiv-Popelnia highway or through the villages of Chervonoye and Andrushevka. It is full of sights and everywhere you can see something interesting. Among others, in Gorodkivka there is the church of St. Clara.
