Holy Three Saints Church of the Ukrainian Chirch on Yuridicheskaya Street

You will not find the Church of the Three Saints just like that. It is located in a residential area, among high-rise buildings and private sector. It is a well-maintained closed territory with its own history. And the history began in 1902, when the temple was erected.

Then the left bank of the Dnieper was just being developed. Not far from here was the station of the Ekaterinoslav railroad, and the area was just being built up with workers’ dwellings. This neighborhood was called Nizhnedneprovsk-Polovitsa, and its new residents would work at the metallurgical and car repair plant. This land would later become part of the city.

In 1902, the Holy Trinity Church would be opened and consecrated in honor of three saints. St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory the Theologian, and St. John Chrysostom. This place will become a cult place for the locals, as there was no other. And at the same time history will not preserve the name of the author of the project.

The gilded dome of the church will rise above the neighborhood, and the number of parishioners for 10 years will be several thousand. Here will be crowned, baptized, buried.

In 1917, after the arrival of Soviet power on the church and its parishioners began persecution.

In 1934, a school was built right next to the temple. According to legend, the school building was specially made higher than the church to prevent people from looking at the church. By 1937 all religious buildings in Dnepropetrovsk were closed. This fate did not pass by the Holy Trinity Church. Here the cross was torn down, and part of the dome was destroyed. Now it has also become an unremarkable backyard among private one-storey buildings. It was also used as a warehouse.

After the occupation of the city by German troops in 1941, services were briefly resumed. After the liberation of the city, the church did not close, but did not have a large parish.

It is also worth mentioning one detail from the life of the temple and the neighborhood. The square near the church remained socially important for some time. There was a flea market where you could buy all sorts of things for living. People gathered to discuss their business and problems, and the traders were often harassed by the police. After a while the trade was closed.

The Church of the Three Saints during the period of Ukraine’s independence

Revival began with the end of the Soviet state. First, the school was moved to a newly built modern building across the street. Little by little the faithful began to pull up. Since 2001 the Sunday school began to operate, and the building and the territory were actively put in order. In 2008 they opened the chapel and named it in honor of Our Lady of Pochaev. In 2009 the central dome was restored – they tried to reproduce it as in the old days. Gilded body on a blue tower with stars – which symbolizes the sky and stars.

Originally the temple looked like a cross, but with additions it became like a ship. The church is like a savior in the raging sea of worldly life. With the reconstruction increased and the internal area of the temple – by 150 square meters to 360 square meters. A refectory was built, which has been expanding ever since.

During frequent services here sing three choirs – professional, children’s and amateur choirs of parishioners.

The territory of the temple is well maintained, it is clean and spacious, there is a lot of decorative greenery and flowers, paving tiles are laid. There is a spring and the grave of Archpriest Anatoly Severin.

The shrines of the Holy Trinity Church

This temple is a real treasure trove of relics. The Gospel of 1784 and the Shroud of the Savior of 1781, relics and icons of dozens of the most revered saints are kept here.
