If you want to relax in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I recommend one quiet and colorful place in the Dnipropetrovsk region – the Dnipro-Donbas canal.
We were vacationing near the village of Shulgivka, very close to the place where this large and important for Ukraine construction begins.
About Dnipro-Donbass canal
The Dnipro-Donbas was built specifically to feed the Seversky Donets River, whose water is used by Donbass industry. When the Seversky Donets could no longer meet all the needs, it was decided to connect it to the Dnipro. Construction began in 1969 and in 1982 the water of the Dnipro became available where it was badly needed.
The canal flows through 4 regions – Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Kharkiv and Donetsk. Moreover, the Poltava region is only 50 meters long. The water of the Dnipro-Donbas canal is used both for irrigation and for supplying the city of Kharkiv.
The canal is 30-60 meters wide and 5-10 meters deep. In its initial part water is pumped by pumping stations, and further it flows by gravity.

And although it is forbidden to light fires, swim, or stay near the nature protection zone along the banks of the canal, there are still people here. Entire companies come here and have a rest with accompanying entertainment. In the neatly planted pine trees, as well as on the banks of the canal itself, there are many traces of such pastime.
I liked just being here. No campfires, no alcohol, no rowdy company.
It was very quiet here, even the water flowed silently – like a silent movie. Only sometimes you could hear birds and ducks, big black crows cawing.
Saw a bird of prey in a field not far from here, hawk, eagle. Something like that. It was perched aloft in a lone tree in the field.
If you want to go to the Dnipro-Donbas canal, to see nature and have a rest, do it carefully. Do not litter and do not pollute the water – it is important not only for people, but also for the animals inhabiting these places. Let everyone be comfortable!
